Bicycle Helmets
Hopefully you'll never actually need your helmet, but in the event that you do, you'll be glad to have on a good one; and that's what we carry here at Intown Bicycles, good ones. We have models for adults and children.
Today's Technology
Helmets today are better than ever. They're stronger, lighter weight, better ventilated and less expensive. With more sizes available and improved retention systems, they fit more precisely and more comfortablably. Helmets have come a long way in the last few years.
Bells for Your Head
We stock Bell helmets, the brand synonymous with bike helmets. They make a huge selection of helmets for all types of biking: road, mountain, downhill, BMX and for just plain ole casual riding. We like Bell helmets because they are a good value and because they fit most people well. Their colors are good too.
Louis Garneau children's helmets come in styles that kid's love.
Louis Garneau Helmets
We also carry the Louis Garneau brand of helmets. They come from Canada A? They're especially safe helmets as they are required to meet the more stringent Canadian safety standards. The Garneau helmets too are very comfortable and very adjustable. They're children's helmets are the cutest.
So, What's the Difference?
The fit, strength, and ventilation are what differentiate the various brands and price points of helmets. Better helmets fit more precisely, keep your head cooler, and offer more protection.
The Fit
The fit is the most important criteria for selecting your helmet. Helmets are shaped a bit differently from brand to brand, so it's good to try on a few when you're shopping to see which ones fit the best. At the lower price points you'll find that helmets come in only one size, but they will have some sort of adjustable headband to fine tune the fit. At higher price points more sizes are offered for a more precise fit. Choose the helmet that is the most comfortable. It should fit snugly, but not uncomfortably so. In the unfortunate event that you do need your helmet, you want it to stay firmly in place.
Ventilation
Ventilation is the next most important criteria for selecting a helmet. Of course, the more vents it has, the cooler it is, and the more it costs.
Strength & Safety
As far as the strength and safety are concerned, all helmet are required to meet minimum safety standards. However, some standards are more stringent than others. For example, as mentioned above, the Canadian standards for the Louis Garneau helmets we sell are more stringent than the American standards.
The Better Helmet
Better helmets will exceed minimum standards, and be stronger, lighter, more comfortable, and better ventilated. We only carry the highest quality helmets, with prices ranging from $35 to $105.
